Stone patio and garden path
Natural stone paving laid on a compacted sub-base with a bound edge, running from a new rear patio through to the garden. Falls set away from the house and a soakaway to take the run-off.
The brief
A waterlogged lawn and a cracked concrete path. The owners wanted a patio off the back door and a proper route down to the garden that would not sink or flood.
What we did
- Dug out to a firm formation and laid a compacted MOT sub-base, with the levels set to fall away from the house.
- Installed a linear drain across the patio and connected it to a soakaway, so run-off is not pushed onto next door.
- Laid natural stone on a full wet bed rather than dot-and-dab, which is what stops slabs rocking later.
- Haunched the edges and pointed with a brush-in compound suited to the joint widths.
The result
A patio that drains, a path that holds its levels, and no standing water against the wall after heavy rain.
