Groundworks
Foundations and groundworks
Excavation, trench-fill foundations, drainage runs and a reinforced slab for a new-build plot — the part nobody sees, and the part everything above depends on.
The brief
A cleared plot needing everything below ground done before the superstructure could start — foundations, drainage and services, to the engineer’s drawings.
What we did
- Cleared and set out the plot from the engineer’s drawings, with levels checked against the datum.
- Excavated and poured trench-fill foundations, with depths adjusted where the trial holes found softer ground.
- Laid foul and surface water drainage, with inspection chambers positioned for access.
- Installed ducting for the incoming services before the slab went down, so nothing had to be dug up later.
- Poured and power-floated a reinforced slab over insulation and a damp-proof membrane.
The result
A level, dry, signed-off platform ready for the bricklayers, with the drainage tested and the services already routed.
